2009 Arizona Diamondbacks

The 2008 Diamondbacks season was an exercise in averageness  . . .the Diamondbacks pulled down a record of 82 wins and 80 losses, and most Diamondbacks prefer mild cheddar cheese over sharp.  The 2009 Diamondbacks lost 8 players due to free agency, including Chris Burke, Juan Cruz, Adam Dunn, David Eckstein, Orlando Hudson and Jeff Salazar.

Joining the Diamondbacks are second baseman Felipe Lopez, RP Scott Schoenweis and catcher James Skelton.

Conor Jackson, Chris Young and Justin Upton anchor the Diamondbacks outfield.  The D-backs hope to limit the innings pitched for 24-year old Max Scherzer, and to do that they will need performance from the rest of the projected starting five:

RHP - Brandon Webb
RHP - Dan Haren
LHP - Doug Davis
RHP - Jon Garland

Diamondbacks Fact Sheet

The Diamondback began Major League play in 1998 through the expansion of the National League.

The Diamondbacks team motto is "A New Brand of Baseball", which is not that interesting if you think about it.  Baseball was just fine before 1998.

Team mascot: D. Baxter the Bobcat

The Diamondbacks have made three Playoff appearances (1999, 2001, 2002) which is quite impressive for an expansion team.

General Manager Josh Byrnes

Local Televison: FSN Arizona, KTVK (3TV)

Spring Training Facility: Tucson Electric Park, Tucson, AZ

Rivals: Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals
Chase Field
The Arizona Diamondbacks have played in Chase Field since 1998, the year of the team's birth.  Chase Field seats 49,033 and the playing surface is natural grass.  The Insight Bowl was played at Chase Field from 2000 to 2005.

The Diamondbacks and Chase Field celebrated a World Series Championship in 2001, just the fourth year of the team's existence.  This is a Major League record - no other expansion team has won a World Series in four years or less.
