The Indians look forward to seeing you at charming Progressive Field!
The 2009 Indians will again battle the White Sox for supremacy in the AL Central. CC Sabathia, however, will not help the Tribe as he has been traded to the NY Yankees, a team that always seems to wind up with the best free agents. Money is such a powerful thing. The Indians picked up a few players whose value has plummeted but who may be poised for come-backs, especially former Yankee Carl Pavano who has been sidelined with injuries for the better part of three years. Some Indians fans are hopeful that Pavano can stay healthy and return to his 2004 glory in which he went 18-8 with a 3.00 ERA.
The Indians' outfield is anchored by LF Ben Francisco, CF Grady Sizemore and RF Shin-Shoo Choo. Despite shoulder surgery in October, DH Travis Hafner is on pace to be on the field in April. Hafner only played in 57 games last season.
The Indians ended the 2008 campaign with the neither hot nor cold record of 81-81.
