The 2009 Los Angeles Dodgers

Before the 2008 season the Dodgers added Manager Joe Torre and OF Andrew Jones, RHP Hiroki Kuroda and C Garry Bennet, creating a well balanced mix of young players and expensive veterans such as Rafeal Furcal, Nomar Garciaparra and Andruw Jones. Oh yeah, and a guy named Manny Ramirez came over from the Boston Red Sox. The result: a record of 84-78.

Joining the Dodgers in 2009 are C Brad Ausmus, IF Mark Loretta and RP Guillermo Mota.

It remains to be seen if Joe Torre can be the answer to managing MLB's highest payroll and significant egos. The Dodgers have not seen the World Series since 1988 and it is not for a lack of high salaries. Hiroki Kuroda's three year and $35.5 million contract is a step in the right direction, as many believe Kuroda is in the league of Pedro Martinez and Dan Haren.

Dodger Stadium

The Dodgers have played home games in Dodger Stadium since the year this writer lost his innocence on a beach in Malibu -- 1966. Actually, I was not alive yet and I've never been to Malibu. Dodger Stadium seats a whopping 56,000 fans, many of whom have a nice tan and show up late to the game in very expensive cars. Dodger Stadium saw action in the 1984 Summer Olympic Games.

Before Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers played home games at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a venue with more football history than baseball, having been home to the LA Rams, USC Trojans, UCLA Bruins, LA Chargers, LA Raiders, LA Express and LA Extreme.
