The Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball team in the National Basketball Association (the NBA).  The Golden State Warriors play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference with four other teams: the Los Angeles Lakers, the Phoenix Suns, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Sacramento Kings.  Warriors tickets will surely be hard to come by during the 2010-2011 NBA schedule.

Warriors 2009-2010 Outlook

The Golden State Warrors  finished the 2009-2010 NBA season with a 26-56 record.  It marked the 3rd straight season in which the Warriors missed out on the playoffs.  In fact, since the 1993-1994 NBA season when the Warriors lost in the 1st round of the playoffs, the Warriors have only qualified for the Western Conference playoffs once.  Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry for one of the most explosive backcourts in the game today.  Ellis led the Warriors with a 25.5 points per game average and he also dished out 5.3 assists per game.  Curry averaged 17.5 points per game and had a 5.9 assists per game average.  Forward Reggie Williams chipped in 15.2 points per game.  The Warriors were definitely missing a few pieces, however, and they hope that 2 off-season acquisitions.

The Warriors signed power forward David Lee to a big $80 million deal.  Lee averaged 20.2 points and 11.7 rebounds per game for the New York Knicks in 2009-2010.  The Warriors hope that Lee can put up similar numbers for their squad in the upcoming season and give the team that inside threat that they have been lacking of late.  It will be up to 1st-year Head Coach Keith Smart to fit all the new pieces together which will be a difficult task for the young coach.  If Ellis, Curry and Lee can figure out a way to complement each other on the court at the same time, the Warriorrs will certainly be an exciting team to watch.  Look out for a winning season from this talented squad and a possible return trip to the post-season. Get your Warriorrs NBA tickets at the P+Oracle Arena before it's too late.

History

The Golden State Warriors were founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a charter member of the Basketball Association of America (the BAA).  The Philadelphia Warriors defeated the Chicago Stags in the BAA Finals in its inaugural season to give the franchise its only non-NBA Championship.  In 1949 the BAA merged with the National Basketball League to form the NBA, and the Philadelphia Warriors were one of the founding members of the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors have retired the following players’ numbers:  Wilt Chamberlain’s #13; Tom Meschery’s #14; Al Attles’ #16; Rick Barry’s #24; and Nate Thurmond’s #42.

Warriors TV/Radio

All Golden State Warriors basketball games can be seen on the Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area television network in the greater San Francisco and Oakland areas.  NBC, ESPN and TNT may also televise Golden State Warriors games based on the popularity of the game.  Tune into the Warriors Flagship radio network KNBR 680 and KNBR 1050 on your AM dial to catch each Golden State Warriors basketball game on the radio.

Oracle Arena
The Golden State Warriors play their home games at Oracle Arena.  Oracle Arena opened in 1966 for the Golden State Warriors, and the team has played their ever since.  Over time, Oracle Arena became increasingly out-dated, but instead of building a brand new arena, the city of Oakland decided to perform a $121 million renovation on the Arena during the 1996-1997 NBA season (the Golden State Warriors played at the San Jose Arena that season).  A brand new seating bowl was constructed inside the original foundation, walls and roof of Oracle Arena.  The new seating capacity for NBA basketball games reached 19,596 devoted die-hard Golden State Warriors fans.  Oracle Arena hosted the Bay Bombers, a professional roller derby team, from 1966-1973 and the California Golden Seals, an NHL hockey team, from 1967-1976.  Oracle Arena has also played host to numerous memorable and historic concerts and special events during its 42 year history, including NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament games in 1990, 1995 and 2006, the 2002 NBA All-Star Game and the 1999 WCW SuperBrawl.
