The Minnesota Vikings have extremely high hopes for the 2008-9 NFL season. 3rd-year Head Coach Brad Childress has fully implemented his offensive and defensive schemes, and he will rely heavily on a powerful rushing attack led by reigning NFL Rookie of the Year Adrian Peterson and dependable veteran Running Back Chester Taylor. Few teams can match the dynamic rushing duo of Peterson and Taylor, and it will be difficult for opposing defenses to stay fresh with the speedy, yet pounding rushing styles of both backs. Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is simply asked to manage the game, and he has developed into a productive quarterback under Childress' tutelage. The Minnesota Vikings will rely on a trio of Wide Receivers acquired from NFC North division foes - Bernard Berrian and Bobby Wade from the Chicago Bears and Robert Ferguson from the Green Bay Packers. If Jackson continues to develop a repoire with all three wide receivers, the Vikings offense could be tough to stop during an entire game. With teams having to focus on stopping the explosive rushing attack, Jackson and the wide receiver trio should be able to stretch the field and haul in long touchdown passes when defenses over-play the efficient running game.
On the defensive end, the Minnesota Vikings have a good mix of experienced veterans and young up and coming superstars. The Minnesota Vikings have a talented deep secondary led by veterans Darren Sharper and Antoine Winfield and sneaky young defensive backs Cedric Griffin and Madieu Williams. Defensive Tackles Pat Williams and Kevin Williams (no relation) should plug up the center, and linebackers E.J. Henderson, Chad Greenway and Ben Leber are as good as any other linebackers in the NFL. Opposing teams’ offenses will surely find it difficult to move the football consistently throughout the season, and the defensive unit should be able to keep the Minnesota Vikings in a lot of games this year. If the offense can generate a consistent and balanced attack and avoid costly mistakes, the Minnesota Vikings will win a lot of games this season and the Minnesota Vikings should find themselves back in the playoffs for the first time since the 2004-2005 NFL season.
