Yankees 2010 Season

It is never dull in the Bronx.  The Yankees make baseball fun.  If the Yankees were in fact a Zoo, as they have been called with love, they would be a zoo that secures the most kick-ass pandas and tallest Giraffs every single year.  They would get llamas from other zoos, they would get the funnest dolphins.  The NY Yankees know how to put together a club.

The success of a Yankee season seems to be measured by one statistic – whether they won the World Series. By that standard, 2010 was a disappointing season. The Yanks lost the AL East to the Rays by one game, and then lost a 6-game ALCS to the Rangers. The Yankees remain a formidable force in baseball and should contend for the title in 2011. The Yankees team batting average in 2010 was .267, and the Yankee pitching rotation posted a combined ERA of 4.06. Derek Jeter had his worst statistical year as a Yankee in 2010, batting only .270. In the off-season Jeter was signed to a 3-4 year contract extension which should keep him a Yankee for the rest of his career. 2010 was a great year statistically for a few other Bronx Bombers, most notably Robinson Cano (.319 average), Alex Rodriguez (125 RBI), Mark Teixeira (33 HRs), Alex Rodriguez (125 RBI) and CC Sabathia (21 wins).
Yankee Stadium
The Yankees – also known as the Bronx Bombers – play their home games in Bronx, NY, in the House that Ruth Built.  Yankee Stadium was built in 1923 to the tune of $2.3 Million.  The New York Giants played there from 1956 to 1973.  Yankee Stadium seats 57,545 Yankee fans, many of whom are loud and have strong opinions about the management of the ballclub.

In 2006, the Yankees broke ground on a new, state-of-the-art ballpark also be known as Yankee Stadium. It is scheduled to open in 2009. The current Yankee Stadium will be used until the new stadium is erected.  Parts of the current Yankee Stadium will be preserved even after the Yankees move to the new stadium. Major League Baseball has awarded the 2008 All-Star Game to the Yankees in honor of the last year of the current stadium.

This is the final year of baseball in historic Yankee Stadium -- don't miss this chance to say good bye.
