The Los Angeles Kings are a professional hockey team in the National Hockey League (the NHL). The Los Angeles Kings play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference with four other teams: the San Jose Sharks, the Anaheim Ducks, the Dallas Stars and the Phoenix Coyotes.  Kings tickets will be a hot item during the 2014-2015 NHL hockey schedule.

Los Angeles Kings 2014-2015 Outlook

The Kings finished last year ranked 25th in goals scored and first in goals allowed, so it’s not hard to see which end of the ice they’re best at. Team defense, from two-way force Anze Kopitar to blueline stud Drew Doughty, is excellent, and they implement Darryl Sutter’s system just about perfectly. Jonathan Quick is a divisive goalie; some view him as a sure-thing superstar, while others see merely a good goaltender on the league’s best defensive team, with a reputation inflated by a few playoff hot streaks. In either case, he’ll deliver strong numbers, and if he gets hurt, there’s always last year’s rookie breakout, Martin Jones.

That leaves the goal scoring, which has been the Kings’ weak spot for several years now. So far they’ve managed to flick the switch on the offense once the playoffs start, but that’s not something you want to count on every year. A full season of Gaborik will help if he can stay healthy all year, which he often doesn’t.

History

The Los Angeles Kings franchise was originally founded in 1967 in Los Angeles, California as part of the NHL’s 6-team expansion.

The Los Angeles Kings have retired the following players’ jersey numbers:  Marcel Dionne’s #16; Dave Taylor’s #18; Luc Robitaille’s #20; Rogatien “Rogie” Vachon’s #30; and Wayne Gretzky’s #99 (retired league-wide by the NHL on February 6, 2000).

Staples Center

The Los Angeles Kings play their home games in the Staples Center. Staples Center is a large multi-purpose sports arena in Downtown Los Angeles. Adjacent to the L.A. Live development, it is located next to the Los Angeles Convention Center complex along Figueroa Street. Opening on October 17, 1999, it is one of the major sporting facilities in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The body of Michael Jackson was veiled on Staples Center.

It is owned and operated by the L.A. Arena Company and Anschutz Entertainment Group. The arena is home to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League (AFL) and the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League were also tenants until both franchises were discontinued; the D-Fenders moved to the Lakers’ practice facility at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, California for the 2011–12 season. Staples Center is also host to over 250 events and nearly 4 million guests each year. It is the only arena in the NBA shared by two teams.
